About Me
Education and Training Background
I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a double minor in Child Advocacy and Public Policy, from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I received my Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University, and my doctoral degree at the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University and University of California San Diego. I completed my APA accredited clinical internship at the Durham VA Health Care System and then completed my postdoctoral fellowship hours through the Durham VA Health Care System, Duke University, and a private practice.
Therapy Approach
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for any therapy. My approach is to be warm, compassionate, transparent, and collaborative. I am passionate about helping people live a life that they want and find meaningful. I help clients meet their goals by understanding the problems they are currently facing, what they'd like to be different and achieve from therapy, and then develop a tailored plan for them to meet these goals. I am affirmative and an ally for the LGBQTIA+ and BIPOC communities. I also have extensive experience working with Veteran populations.
I use evidence-based approaches when providing therapy, which means that the therapies, tools, and techniques that I provide have strong scientific evidence to support them. I use these treatments and tailor them to each client’s individual needs. The therapies I provide will examine how the problems you are facing may be impacted by your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, or behaviors, and work together to teach you how to apply various tools and techniques to change these, as needed, to meet your goals.
I care deeply about my clients and the work I do. We will work together to come up with a treatment plan for you and continue to check in on how therapy is going, and make any changes, as needed.
Research and Service
I have an extensive background conducting research to examine how to most effectively provide, deliver, and increase engagement in evidence-based treatments for PTSD. I have overseen studies examining how to improve PTSD treatments, have published over 40 scientific peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters in this area, and presented my research at national and international conferences. I use the latest findings from research to inform my clinical practice to ensure that clients receive the best care possible that is shown to work.
I have also been actively involved in professional societies, such as the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
Personal
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, being outside, water activities and sports, baking, and exploring new areas.
